Please save the date!!

On Saturday, June 14, The Packer Family would like to invite you to honor our parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

As you can imagine, we hope to make this a very special night to honor our parents and grandparents who continue to inspire us with their love and devotion to one another and the solid foundation they have provided to us as a family.

Next week you will be receiving a formal invitation, but since many of their friends now live out of town, I wanted to give as much advance warning as possible.

Attached is the actual invitation.

We hope you can make it!

Best,

Katie Packer

P.S. If you are extended family, please feel free to pass this along to other family members as I may not have email addresses for all of them.

Hi Bernie:  We sure need the class's prayers now.  Frank is in the hospital.  His liver is/was failing.  They are working on the premise that an antibiotic is the cause.  The one (don't remember the name) is one that stays in the body longer than any other.  They are giving him two things and will check the blood work daily.  If the liver count goes down, they will know that it the cause.  If not lots of other things.  The doctors really scared me when they first told me and that it was very serious.  At least now, we have a more positive outlook.  He was supposed to go into Univ. of WA hospital, but they couldn't get a bed.  They are working with the doctors there.  It is our eqivalent to the Cleveland Clinic.  Anyways, if he doesn't improve, he will still have to go down there.  Right now he is in Providence Hospital, Colby Campus, Everett, WA  98201   Room 417

Thanks, Gloria

To Our Class Members:

I went to our monthly luncheon today and was shocked to find out that our classmate, Bernie, has cancer.

I know that the majority of those at the luncheon knew this but I wanted those of you who don't know to be informed.

Please pray for Bernie as he is taking treatments and send him a card to let him know that you care.

Bernie, has never missed a luncheon other than when he was spending time with his family.

Hi Bernie,

We plan to attend the September Bash, our first one.

I sent an e-mail to the person who ran my last class reunion and never got an answer.  My class is dead.   If it is Ok I consider myself more a part of your class than mine.

Linda wants me to include a book review I wrote for for the Mended Hearts news letter.

Book Review, Recommendation

“Younger Next Year” by Chris Crowley & Henry S. Lodge, M.D.

The subtitle promises to turn back your biological clock.

The book encourages you to: Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy --- Until you’re 80 and beyond.

Chris, now 70 and trying to implement his ideas since retirement at age 50, lives a very active life which includes downhill skiing.  His focus is to show the importance of exercise his consistent and sometimes hilarious experiences.  He will encourage you to exercise at least six days per week.  He shows the importance of stress training and recommends at least two and better three of the six days include stress training.  He discusses the important of having a professional training and working closely with your doctor.

Dr. Lodge, Harry in the book, develops a set of rules for us to follow.  He follows up Chris’s enthusiasm with medical observations.  He shows the biological reasons for exercise and being consistent.

The book was given to me by a hunting buddy in Montana.  His father and uncle were actively hunting and knocking down Mallards into their early 90’s.

The message to me was I am too easy on myself and not consistent enough.  In conclusion “if you are not doing it (activities) today you will not be doing it tomorrow!

Have a great day and we look forward to seeing you.

Bob and Linda

Bernie,

Team USA won the gold 5 to 2 and we are flying home but don't need an airplane. We broke down when the GOLD medal was hung around Madison's neck. It is hard to explain the feeling or express it. We were able to go down on the ice to congratulate her. It was over an hour before we left the arena. There were over 2000 Canadians and about 75 Americans. They heard USA constantly. I lost my voice. Later I talked to a Canadian coach  and he was amazed at how good our girls are. I will have more pictures for you.

Dear Bernie:

That's right.  Both nights 11-0.  Last night they had 67 to 3 shots on goal and tonight 62 to 5.

My son-in-law was digging through all the stats, so proud of Madison.  Of the top four scorers in the tournament, 3 are Canadian, only one is team USA, her name is Packer.  They don’t have the stats posted from today but he thinks based on today's games she will still be one of the top.

I just felt like bragging as my 16 year old sophomore granddaughter has been selected to the girls ice hockey Team USA. She is one of twenty young girls chosen and is the youngest player. They play in Calgary, Alberta starting January 7 against the Russians, then Sweden on January 8. The gold medal is on January 12 and it is expected to be between Canada and the USA. Needless to say We are on our way, if I can get my head thru the door. As you know I was born in England and my wife in Wales so we are doubly proud to have a granddaughter representing the USA.
